The goal of masters swimming is : “To promote fitness, friendship, understanding and competition” between swimmers.

  • The starting age to swim in masters events is 19 years.
  • With the first age group recognised by FINA in masters swimming events throughout the world being the 25 – 29 year age group.
  • Age groups then go up in groups each of 5 years; and it is against those folks that you will be ranked in the masters movement – locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
  • i.e. : 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-65; 66-69; 70-74; 75-79; 80-84; 85-89; 90-94; 95-99; 100-104; 105-109

The oldest masters swimmers are in the 105-109 age group.

Cape Town Masters have members ‘from up-country’ as well as in the Cape.

The bulk of our swimmers are from the Cape Town metro area.

We train at various locations, mostly at the heated gym pools (Virgin Active; Planet Fitness) throughout the year and then at the unheated municipal pools during the summer months.
